"Somebody Stop Me" by Red-Phantom "Somebody Stop Me" by Red-Phantom
I tried looking up "The Mask, Jim Carrey" on Deviant Art and discovered an absolute lack of fan art based on the film. (Well, there's some, but scarcely any.) But I do note the more gruesome versions of "The Mask", from the original, and very, very violent comics. Thank the stars the movie was a romantic comedy, instead of a hammer horror.

I can't believe how underestimated that film is. Makes me wanna watch it again.

Photoshop 4, three layers.

Btw, the sequel to this film should never be watched... Ever. It's so upsetting.

No Mask, don't get it on with Tina or else you'll have a Baby just like Alvey Avery! *See "Son of the Mask" for details*

I absolutely agree with you. There should be more fanart/fiction for The Mask.

I kid you not, when I say this, BUT I had a dream that I wore the mask and it was AWESOME!!

Dude, you're making me feel so very old. I remember when this came out and I thought it was the greatest movie ever. Pre- Will Farrell, this was the movie everyone was quoting.
Great job

I think The Mask is still better than most other comedies in current film. Will Farrel (no offense, he's great, too) most often depends on the modern form of comedy- lots of pointlessness and random out-of-character jests.

It's not old; it's Smoking'!

Nice work! Loved the movie, never saw the sequel. Cameron Diaz was super hot and curvaceous; not skinny/anorexic like in her later films. She was the reason I enjoyed the movie; Jim Carrey was just the icing on the cake.

Who can forget the immortal lines (in a fake French accent): "I will expose my croissant... I will spread your pate'... I will dip my ladle in your vichysoisse!" :D

Yeah, Cameron Diaz was delicious in this film. I'll never forget her opening scene (The full body sweep  ).

Yeah- that's the best way to see a bad sequel. It removes any slight, disgraced feeling for the original- and invokes a hopeful idea that someone might come up with a better version that continues the theme without ravaging the original.

I really wished the follow-up was a WHOLE lot different instead of poisoning the series career the way it did.

I mean the cartoon was decent, the comics were cool but Son of the Mask was a radioactive mess that will take YEARS to clean up.

Also I was kind of teased at the end when Tina had the Mask in her hands only to throw it in the river.

That ending seemed sound and complete. Although you simply can't forget 'The Mask' itself. It begged sequel- but not ten years later, and with a whole different cast. D:

I have no intention of watching the sequel... :fear: From what I know of it, I doubt that even Jim Carrey himself could have saved that film. He seems to have the sense to stay away from awful sequels, thankfully. Such as the 'Ace Ventura 3' that's coming out later this year...

Good job on this! I'm surprised there isn't more Mask fanart on dA.

They obliterated the plot and story line, introduced a baby with the powers of the mask, and a dog that keeps trying to kill him. Plus it ignores the logic once clearly explained in the first movie that the mask only works at night, not 24/7. None of the actors from the first movie appeared in the sequel, and they introduced the Norse Gods Loki, Thor, Odin, ect. with poor character development. (they targeted audience was for infants- if not for animal/baby spazzes. )

Just imagine the sequel never existed, watch the first one, and leave it at that.

lmao I loved that movie as a kid, although I really shouldn't have been watching it for all the sexual implications (at the time, movie ratings were far stricter). I also loved Ace Ventura: Pet detective. And I loved him as the riddler, too. I love all of his movies... XD I was so sad when he declined the lead role in the sequel. I don't think you can make a sequel without the original cast D: I love this pic! <33 Your female anatomy has improved! ;D lol

Much appreciated, :}. Glad you know of Jim's many other roles in films.

I just wish The Mask lasted longer. I mean, there was the animated series, but they were disorganized- much like most of the other 1990's movies.

Personally i wouldn't had mind that they had gone like in the comics if it wasn't for Jim Carrey making more into comedy than horror.

Tho if they had done sequel right they should have involve Kellaway has the new Mask like in the comics also hading Walter. Yet The Mask was one of those movies you couldn't do a sequel, not to mention that any movie that stars Jim Carrey, If they make a sequel without the original cast then the movie will blow.

Kellaway being the Mask would actually be an interesting turn for the sequel. Of course, they'd have to recast since Peter Riegel was too old by 2005 (I think Will Ferrell could make a good Kellaway). Also, bringing in Walter is a cool idea, as long as they make him the main henchman of another villain (Walter is not really the kind of character that can carry a movie on his own as the main villain).

In any case, it would have been fa more acceptable than "Son of the Mask".

It was a shame; Jim Carrey bailed on the offer to star in the sequel. : /

It'd be neat to see a different and more accurate version of 'The Mask' comics into film. Although we'd have to wait till the audience becomes more tolerant of a sadistic character.

It's all about the interpretation, mate. The Mask can fit in so many genres of film, depending on what the studios are after. (Incidentally, the Studios that filmed 'The Mask' really did want to make this movie into a horror film. But after reading some scripts and considered their extremely small budget, decided to go with a less traumatizing comedy. )
